Now when I was looking for a star that would wow, and that would also show off the fabulous hand printed Blueberry Park fabrics, I took to Pinterest and trawled through my 'Things To Make - Quilt Blocks' board to try and find the perfect solution.
I found this star by Helen of Patchwork Of Mini-Grey, and my heart leapt:
And then I discovered that it was a 9" block *sigh*. I looked at the pattern on the Quilters' Cache, and realised there was no getting round it, I'd have to draw my own pattern to make it the right size.
Because of the patterns on the fabric, I think mine looks a bit more complex than it actually is, because, in fact, it is just a 9 patch block, made up of 8 paper pieced sections, and one square:
|Please excuse the instagram pic, I didn't think of the tute until after I was done!|
The corner block piece is:
With the side blocks being:
See, not so bad after all :o)
If you want a PDF with these 2 block sections at the correct size, you can find it here, just print it out 4 times, and make sure you don't set 'scale to fit' when printing. If you need any tips on how to paper piece, please check out my Foundation Paper Piecing For The Terrified series :o)
As you can see from both my block and the one I'd pinned, variations in fabric placement can give different effects, which is part of the fun of this star.
Looking forward to seeing what you all come up with!
